the LG Watchphone is here

We announced way back in February that it's coming, and boy, has it been a long wait. Show your appreciation for the LG Watchphone.

riotous applause

Beautiful and quirky, it's kitted out with voice activated command software, so all you have to do is ask it to make a call and you're connected. There's also Bluetooth, a VGA camera and a scratch resistant face so you can text without messing those sleek lines up. But how do you get your hands (or should that be wrists) on one?

Well, we're lucky enough to be meeting the LG next Monday, but the rest of you will have to wait until next Thursday when it goes on sale at 9am at the Orange shop in Bond Street tube station, here in London town. The Feed will be there, replete with camera and a keen eye on how fast the Watchphone flies off the shelves.

Will you be there? We hope so. In the meantime, here's Conor from the Newsroom with some more info to whet your appetites.

  3. Hi Steve, you can get the Watchphone this coming Thursday at the Bond St Orange Shop in London. They will be priced at £500. Hope to see you there :)

WooblyBob, thanks for sharing your opinion. We do appreciate that the Watchphone isn't for everyone, even though we think it's pretty cool. As we said before, we keep in close contact with our colleagues in Orange to find out when new handsets are available, but we do appreciate your frustration. Orange do have lots of great handsets like the HTC Hero, so maybe that would be more up your street.

  4. i personally think its really ugly, and if it works like im assuming it works, it will do nothing to combat terrorism, because it makes it more subtle and secretive to pass messages to and back from other sources, but without the hand to ear motion..
i dont like it, i think these creators are taking it too far now.. people never even thought we would have a colour phone, camera phone, music phone... its getting out of hand, what next, a phone you put inside your body? silly and stupid..

  5. Thanks for sharing your opinion Dan. Guess a normal handset is more up your street and fair enough :)

  6. come on Ria, you know you want one really, you could pretend you are Michael Knight in front of your
    friend(s.?)

    checkitout says:
  7. Hmmm, well... I could pretend to be Michael Knight, but my mates might be suspicious because I'm quite obviously a girl! I have worn the LG though and anything that adds a bit of glamour to a dull Monday morning is a good thing in my book.

  14. Orange are not taking on the N97 in there stores because of software problems. Everyone i know whos had the N97 says it never works and i know someone who works for vodaphone and they told me the same thing having 3 or 4 hands being send off at a time. Go for the HTC Hero W995 or the Samsung Hd (mite be a little big but a good phone) :-D

  16. Ria,

Thanks for the good news. I have been waiting for such a release for a very long time. I am just wondering, I drop by the UK quite frequently and would like to get one of them, would it be possible? Are those locked or can they be used back home on my network?

    Chad says:
  17. Whereabouts do you live Chad? Not sure of the date we're getting more Watchphones, but it won't be long. When the first lot were sold at the Orange Bond St store, one chap came all the way from Germany to get one!

    23 September, 2009 08:58

    Ria@The Feed says:
  18. coming all the way from germany is a bit much like

  21. watch phones have been around for some time in asia and in the us. but like many things the uk is the last to know. we live in the dark ages compared with asia.
my only grumble with a 'watch phone' is, like an ipod, it is another easily identifiable expensive gadgets you cam be mugged for??

  22. A good point, but I think as with anything Dannyboy, you just have to be careful and look after yourself.

  23. Hiya, Do you know if this phone will be available for upgrade/normal purchase or is this a 'one off' and its been and gone?

    08 October, 2009 11:42

    Kieron says:
  24. It will be available on the website to buy soon, but it's a one-off in that it's not available on upgrades.
