your phone and Facebook get cosy

We like using Facebook but it's not always convenient to log onto a computer to do the profile housekeeping.

Which is why Orange's picture messaging (MMS) and text messaging (SMS) Facebook features are pretty cool. We've tried them out and they're a) super speedy and b) easy to use.

Everyone knows that one of the best thing about Facebook is the photos. Just take your snap and create a new MMS, which you send to mobile@facebook.com. If this is the first time you've used this service, you'll get a message back with a confirmation code. Enter this into the mobile upload area and bingo, your photo appears in your profile.

To use the text message features on Facebook, simply send your SMS to 32665 (FBOOK on your keypad, so nice and easy to remember). Within seconds it'll pop up in your profile. As with MMS, if this is the first time you've used the service you'll get a confirmation code to input.

You can do a whole heap of profile-prowling with Facebook to SMS: status updates, scribbling on walls, sending and receiving messages, giving your pals a Poke... there's all sorts.

You can also check it all out by heading over to Facebook.com/Mobile and get signed up there.

PS We shouldn't forget to let you know that all your texts and picture messages are charged at the standard rate.

  5. Hey Mel - you can sign up by visiting Facebook.com/mobile using either your phone or computer. You have to have a profile first of course, but it's very easy. All you do is enter your mobile number and so when you text or send a picture message to your Facebook profile, the site knows where to put it.

If you're not sure what your plan entitles you to, give customer services a ring from your phone and they can help you.

    Cheers,

    Ria@The Feed

  43. Hi Mandy - afraid we can't help you with that one here at The Feed. We do know that customer services are your people to talk to though, so if you're pay monthly, call 150 from your phone, and if you're pay as you go, give 450 a buzz.

  49. I am on Dolphin 35 18 month contract and from reading elsewhere on this thread it seems facebook access - via orange world - is free to prepay users but contract users like myself incur data charges :-( To avoid this it seeems that I would either have to: Use the phone's WiFi or keep putting an orange prepay SIM in to access facebook! Seems Orange is subsidising free 'prepay' access to facebook by charging contract customers! Worst case scenario is £45 extra a month in data charges!!! (Based on £1.50 per day capped over 30 days) Fact is networks make so little now on voice/text traffic (and on prepay) that they have to get money somewhere - data is one of those areas! Oh well at least I get free Sat Nav :-)
