Lately we blogged about Google Street View and the controversy it caused, with some people getting het up about potential privacy issues. (Thanks for your intelligent comments, by the way.)
But last weekend we read about new Google Earth mobile software available through Android, that will allow us all to view stars and planets using our mobile phone. (No fear of privacy issues in space...)
Called Star Droid, GPS mapping will mark out where you are located using existing space maps. Then it will tag up the planets and constellations seen through the viewfinder on your mobile camera and tell you what you're looking at.
With street lights and pollution blamed for masking all the twinkling, software like this lets amateur star-gazers take a closer look without forking out for a big old telescope.
Reports predict the application could be launched as early as next week, so we will give it a whirl when it arrives.
We've actually had a hot tip-off from our friends at the Newsroom that Android devices will be hitting Orange UK in the not-too-distant future... stay tuned because we'll be reporting any information the moment we hear.
So do you think this is a top app or just another mobile feature you won't have time to use?
