lost and found

A dog may be a man's best friend, but what do you do if your treasured pet goes missing? Whether it's haring after a squirrel that causes a temporary panic or a more sinister case of thieves at work, there's a genius solution at hand in the shape of the Retrieva Tracking and Anti-theft collar, launched hand-in-hand with Orange.

The collar is an instant tracking device designed to work with your mobile. It's embedded with a trio of technology: GPS, GSM and radio frequency (to make sure there's no gaps in the tracking and near perfect mobile signal), plus an Orange SIM. The moment Rover goes on an unsupervised wander, a text will alert you of it and by returning the message, you can request your pet's location.

By adding on the nifty mapping capability you can plot your errant friend's location using the ordnance survey map. If your mobile is GPS enabled, you can plot your position in relation to your dog.

Other useful features include pet-inpenetrable waterproofing (for the inevitable moment they launch headlong for the lake) and an instant alert message to your phone if anyone tries to cut the collar or tamper with the lock.

For dog owners who find themselves out on a lonely evening walkies, peace of mind comes in the shape of a safety alarm that sends an alert message to mobile numbers entered into the collar, to track your location.

Now that should get some tails wagging ;-)

  1. This is border genius.

There seems to be a lot of nifty innovation going on with dog collars at the moment. SNIF Labs took it to the social level by letting dog owners forge new connections with fellow dog-walkers, both online and off.

Are dog collars the new match.com?

  3. Good idea BUT all dogs should be trained not to wander off. You may track your dog but what about the dangers to your dog and other livestock while he is off on his ramble!!. So if you get a collar remember PLEASE TRAIN only rely on it in an emergency

  7. This is blo*dy marvellous. My best mate has lost his dog while it went chasing a fox. He's been searching everywhere. He now wants this device after i mentioned it. Its very well thought out piece of kit, waterproofed and good safety features. Well done Orange & team for this device. You should market this in shops, as not many know this is available.

  10. Finnish company called Tracker sells much more developed devices than orange´s one. Check out www.tracker.fi - accessories and then transmitters... all the finnish hunters are using these. And these ones are made for heavy use.

  13. A less expensive option can be found at www.the-pat.net - they also offer a no subscription service and also a means of tracking without the need to have a mobile phone or internet access
